The Social Network
Synopsis
The Social Network is a biographical drama that chronicles the creation of Facebook and the legal battles that ensued. The film begins in 2003 with Harvard University sophomore Mark Zuckerberg (Jesse Eisenberg) being dumped by his girlfriend, Erica Albright. In his dorm room, Zuckerberg develops Facemash, a website that allows users to rate the attractiveness of female students by hacking into Harvard's house directories. The site's popularity leads to disciplinary action, but it also catches the attention of twins Cameron and Tyler Winklevoss (Armie Hammer) and their business partner Divya Narendra (Max Minghella). They invite Zuckerberg to collaborate on a social networking site called Harvard Connection. Instead, Zuckerberg, with the help of friend Eduardo Saverin (Andrew Garfield), creates "Thefacebook," a platform initially exclusive to Ivy League students. The site rapidly expands, attracting the attention of Napster co-founder Sean Parker (Justin Timberlake), who becomes involved with the company. As Facebook's success grows, legal disputes arise, leading to lawsuits from the Winklevoss twins and Saverin, who claims his shares were unfairly diluted. The film explores themes of ambition, friendship, betrayal, and the complexities of success in the digital age.
